Sherry Gifford Martin, a graduate from Medina High School in 1983, after Title IX was passed, was always at the top as an athlete of the Bees. With the passage of Title IX she had opportunities in sports which others before her did not have. She played volleyball, basketball and ran track, she also received varsity letters in each sport. She continued her volleyball career at Malone University, as a three year starter and team captain. For thirteen years, she was a varsity volleyball coach for Medina, Trinity and Bay Village. She turned around all three struggling programs and enhanced middle school feeder programs . Now she coaches a volleyball traveling team.
Sherry encourages girls and young women to play a sport. She serves as a role model and mentor by passing on her playing experiences. She continues to impact female athletes by teaching values like teamwork, discipline, strong moral standards and the love of the game.
